Montréal, June 2, 2023 – Bâtirente held its annual general meeting today simultaneously in Montréal, Lévis and online, in front of about 100 group representatives and partners. Board Chair Yvan Duceppe and CEO Éric Filion were proud to present the results and achievements for 2022. “The results obtained in 2022 in a difficult economic context attest to our ability to protect our members’ capital, thanks to solid, high-performance funds, all of which beat their benchmarks,” noted Éric Filion. Today, more than 27,000 members from 320 remarkably loyal unions and groups are what give the corporation its strength. “Bâtirente has seen steady growth in its groups and members these past few years. An increasing number of unions are recognizing the value of banding together to benefit from Bâtirente’s extensive range of services. Once again, in 2022, Bâtirente proved that this offer is able to meet the challenges that arise,” added Yvan Duceppe. Climate commitment A leader in responsible investment, Bâtirente unveiled its ambitious climate commitment in 2020. Two years later, the results are positive and leave us fully confident that we will achieve our four objectives. “Bâtirente’s climate commitment aims for a global approach to responsible investment,” emphasized Éric Filion. Since 2018, assets invested in impact strategies have increased by $140M and now make up 24% of all mandates entrusted to managers. Bâtirente honours its Builders During the meeting, Bâtirente inducted Pierre Patry, former CSN Treasurer and Board Chair for 17 years (from 2004 to 2021), into the Builders’ Honour Roll. He joins four other individuals who, like himself, successfully helped the organization fulfill its mission. Board elections During the meeting, CSN Treasurer Yvan Duceppe was elected as a CSN-appointed representative, for a second term, as was Alexandre Laviolette, Fédération du commerce (FC-CSN) President, for his first term. Two members representing the groups were also elected for their first term: Jonathan Paradis Lapointe, Vice-President, Health & Safety of the STT du groupe PJC entrepôt labour union; and Sylvain Grenier, Treasurer, Fédération de l’industrie manufacturière (FIM-CSN) federation and representative of the Syndicat des travailleurs de l’industrie manufacturière union. Néjia Chehidi, President of the STT de l’Hôtel Reine Elizabeth union, stepped down from the board in 2022 after serving on it for 12 years. “I wish to thank Néjia for her dedication to Bâtirente and her participation on the Member Services Committee,” said Yvan Duceppe. Kevin Gagnon of the STT de Bridgestone union and Vice-President of the FIM-CSN, and Michel Valiquette, Treasurer, FC-CSN, also left the board. We thank them for their contribution and their role in the smooth running of Bâtirente. About Bâtirente Bâtirente is a group retirement system created in 1987 at the initiative of the CSN. It allows 27,000 workers, grouped in 320 labour unions, to benefit from pension plans tailored to their needs by pooling their savings.
