Euresa
In 2006, Bâtirente was approached by Euresa, a European group of insurers in the social economy sector, to participate in a project for beyond-border accessibility to voting rights exercise.
Varying regulation, distance and time constraints, as well as the lack of knowledge of local markets are all indeed elements that make it difficult to exercise voting rights in companies located outside of national borders and this, at reasonable costs.
The principle governing the project is as follows: An organization in the network takes the leadership of a specific case and in so doing, promises to forward the information to the other members of the network about the relevant company. It essentially represents voting recommendations and their supporting statements. Network members inform companies of their position with regard to these recommendations. They may elect to support the leading organization’s position by voting for their recommendations or to mandate the organization to act on their behalf or yet, decide not to support the proposed position.
